Vom Glück der Kühe
Not only the cows are in luck when they can enjoy a natural husbandry without the need for performance-enhancing feed or medication. In his film Bertram Verhaag shows that their owners, and ultimately the consumers too, can call themselves lucky when more and more farmers abide by the principles of natural dairy breeding.
Viewers will take cows to their hearts, their beauty captured in observant, almost picturesque shots. The owners and breeders judge the animals according to their lifetime performance instead of short periods of top performance. Due to this foresight the cows live longer, bear more calves and prove to be in good health. They convert hay and grass into digestible, precious milk and don’t need damaging soy feed.
Scientists, such as Dr. Günter Postler, have joined forces with a growing number of dedicated farmers and are now fighting for an ethical breeding program – dairy breeding for lifetime performance!
The protagonists raise hope for change and foster courage to question entrenched conventions, keeping a strong focus on the bare essentials.
