Big Miracle

2012 | 107 min | Recommended min. age: 12 y

Reporter Adam Carlson (John Krasinski) would like nothing more than to escape his tiny village in remote northern Alaska and become a “real” journalist. Instead, the big scoop falls right into his lap. When the Arctic sea begins to freeze over after a particularly short summer, a family of majestic grey whales are trapped in the ice.

The animal’s hopeless situation grabs media attention all over the world and attracts not only ruthless journalists but oil tycoons too. Quickly the American and Russian governments are fighting over the arctic circle and how to best rescue these creatures. Adam’s biggest problem however, materializes as his ex-girlfriend, Rachel Kramer (Drew Barrymore) – a militant Greenpeace activist.

“Big Miracle” is the dramatization of a true event which made headlines in 1988.
