Urbanization + Smart Cities

The best films on cities, urbanisation, urban development, urban gardening and smart cities.

The majority of people live in cities. In urban areas, housing, workplaces, education, consumption, culture and tourism are concentrated in a very small space. A correspondingly large number of different usage needs come together here. This is a challenge for urban planners. When building, they are primarily guided by the needs of industry, motorists and the economy. Nature often has no priority. Because urban space is expensive.

So how can we provide urban populations with food, water and shelter – while protecting ecosystems? Smart and green cities emphasise a high quality of life, space for animals, urban ecology and efficient use of resources. Thanks to information and communication technologies, traffic flow is improved or water and electricity consumption is reduced. Open spaces are preserved and upgraded, dense construction and mixed use are strengthened. The most important places for daily needs can be reached on foot or by bicycle.

The films in this section show the challenges of today and the cities of tomorrow.

The film shows the experiments thought up by motivated pioneers who are working for a sustainable world. The examples are not necessary transferable to the world system. However, it must be mentioned that some statements are not correct, especially in regard to finance, that banks are represented as funds. This is a shortened and simplified explanation in terms of money economy and can lead to false interpretations. The mechanism that money will be "created" in the short term (100% temporary) is linked to the mechanics of lending, not the decision of a bank. In sum, a bank can only lend a part of what it has in deposits.
