Fairtrade + Economy

The best film about fair trade, globalisation, corporate social responsibility and multinational corporations.

With the globalisation of the economy, there is an abundance of goods. The huge supply increases competition between producers. Due to the competitive situation, prices are falling. What is advantageous for consumers means enormous price pressure for producers. In order to hold their own in a highly competitive market, they have to produce cheaply and efficiently. This is because multinational corporations with their large distribution chains often push down the prices of raw materials. As a result, production is outsourced to low-wage countries. The environment also suffers. Because environmentally friendly production practices are often more expensive for the manufacturers.

But there is another way. Fair trade companies operate according to ethical and environmentally friendly principles. They guarantee fair trade practices. Producers can produce without destroying the environment and exploiting people. Business not quite as usual.

The films in this section show the effects of globalisation on people and the environment. But also companies and practices where maximising humanity is in the business plan.

Fair Traders

Claudia Zimmermann, Sina Trinkwalder, Patrick Hohmann
The film creates awareness for environmental (agriculture, animal husbandry, etc.) and social issues (homeless people, cotton pickers in Africa, etc.) and uses real examples to show that ecological sustainability, social commitment and successful business are not mutually exclusive. We recommend the film to viewers with an interest in ecological management (especially in the textile sector), fair trade and social responsibility.
