Everything's gonna be okay.
Filmmaker Erwin Wagenhofer doesn't make it that easy. In his latest film "But Bwautiful" he looks for the beautiful and the good and shows people who break new ground. What could a good, successful life look like? Is a "different" life possible at all? The result is a film about perspectives without fear, about connectedness in music, nature and society, about people with different ideas but one big common goal: a sustainable world.
Women without school education who build solar systems for villages all over the world. Permaculture visionaries on La Palma who transform wasteland into new greenery. A forester who develops the healthiest houses in the world. A spiritual leader with mischief and essential messages and his Tibetan sister with a big heart for youth. A young jazz trio, an established pianist, a soulful Colombian singer, who convey the sound of beauty to us. "But Beautiful" connects them all.
Everything will be fine? Everything can be good.

The documentary film by Erwin Wagenhofer shows with selected examples from all over the world how fulfilling the orientation of thinking and acting towards ecological and social values can be. – spielfilm.de
What is impressive about But Beautiful is above all the beauty it seeks against the warning-dystopic films like Earth (Nikolaus Geyrhalter, 2019), and which he does not seek by showing the global destruction, but rather the immeasurable possibilities that our planet has to offer. – Kino-Zeit
Beautiful, but somehow arbitrary: it remains unclear what the director was about in his new documentary film. – Der Standard
His film always remains an offer to the viewer, not a compulsory instruction. A film in which at the end you get an idea of what happiness can mean. – Wiener Zeitung
Coupled to fascinating landscape photographs, "But Beautiful" conveys a high understanding of beauty according to its title. Because in the classical sense he tries to capture the true and the good - with certainly a bit too much exuberance – NZZ
